Returning to nursing/midwifery

Are you a former nurse or midwife who's looking to get back into the career?

Perhaps you wanted a career break, or maybe you've been working in other health or care roles? Maybe you took time out to start a family, or you've been lucky enough to be experiencing life overseas?

Whatever the reason, there's a way for you to get back into this wonderful profession.

Welcome back!

Health Education England offers return to nursing advice to ensure that your knowledge, skills and passion can once again be gainfully employed in supporting people's health and care needs.

Health Careers also offer a Return to Practice Programme specifically for General Practice nurses. This is run at a number of universities and incorporates the existing return to practice course (required by the NMC for re-registration) and an Introduction to the role of a GP Nurse.

Whatever your circumstances or location, there'll be something for you. Check the Health Careers returning to nursing web pages to find what suits you best. You'll also find out more about the overall return to practice programme and you can read first-hand accounts from others who have gone before you.
